Dear Sir or Madam,
at the end of November, more than 100 participants from 44 countries gathered in Indonesia for the International Council for Adult Education ICAE World Assembly and conference. As the global umbrella organisation for Adult Learning and Education (ALE), ICAE has been advocating for the promotion of ALE for 50 years. It speaks with one voice for those involved in ALE on all continents. As a representative of Europe, I was able to bring the concerns of European stakeholders to the conference.   The conference focused on how ALE can contribute to addressing global challenges. The importance of UNESCO’s Confintea process in addressing this issue was highlighted. In Marrakech in June 2022, UNESCO Member States adopted the Marrakech Framework for Action (MFA). It is a milestone in international ALE policy. However, for the measures it contains to actually be implemented and to have an impact, governments need to work closely with non-state actors. It is precisely this connection that ICAE can establish in collaboration with its members in the regions.

International co-operation in the field of ALE generates significant added value, as the ICAE conference once again demonstrated. As a member of ICAE, we will continue to be committed to the promotion of ALE on a global level. Bernhard Grämiger
