Here is the preliminary advert announcing Prof. Peter Mayo‘s forthcoming volume, scheduled for December this year. It is largely single authored save for two chapters which are co-authored. The book contains two chapters on Palestine. One is co-authored with Palestinian scholar/activist Najwa Al-Silwadi: Adult Education under siege in Palestine. The other, single authored, is titled: Antonio Gramsci, Settler Colonialism and Palestine. These two chapters represent in depth studies on adult learning and education (ALE) in the ‘Southern’ Mediterranean. ‘South’ and ‘North’, ‘Middle East’ etc are treated as relative, colonial terms throughout the book, hence their being placed in single quotation marks.
Other chapters include a comparative study on adult popular education in Italy, Portugal and Spain co-authored with Paula Guimaraes and Emilio Lucio Villegas, critical pedagogy and ALE and a chapter, up front, providing a critical analytic overview of Adult Learning and Education in both the. ‘Southern’ and ‘Northern’ Mediterranean including analytic forays into the ‘East’ Mediterranean, notably Cyprus, Greece, Turkey and the former Yugoslavia.
It is the 37th book in the series: ‘International Issues in Adult Education’. This book series has recently been an integral part of the work programme of the UNESCO Chair in Global Adult Education, the logo of which appears in each of the recent volumes.
