several global and European political agendas set a focus on the digital and green transition, from the 2030 Agenda to the European Green Deal. Increasingly, the green and digital transition are no longer viewed separately from each other, but rather as a twin transition against the backdrop of interdependence. |
According to the Report 2022 from the Joint Research Centre of the EU Commission titled Towards a Green and Digital Future, managing the twin transition is the cornerstone for a sustainable, fair, and competitive future. However, one key requirement for a sustainable twin transition is an increase in societal commitment to the need for change. In order to achieve this commitment, the general population needs adequate awareness, knowledge, skills, and competences, which underlines the central role of adult learning in this context. Together with the European Association of Adult Education EAEA and the International Council of Adult Education ICAE, SVEB is exploring how to strengthen the voice of adult education in the context of the Twin Transition. The joint project Advocacy for Adult Learning and Education in Twin Transition (ALE4TT) co-financed by Movetia aims to promote advocacy to strengthen adult learning in this area – in order to do justice to the important role of adult learning in the twin transition. With the advocacy toolkit the project will provide a collection of tools that can support adult learning and education providers in reaching policymakers and in building a network of allies to advocate the role of ALE in the twin transition. It will be published in June 2025. Marianne Müller Project Manager Research and International Affairs |
